“The Kusam Klimb is a wild and rugged 23 km loop heading up and over Mount H’Kusam and down the Stowe Creek watershed.
Starting at sea level, participants pass through some of the most spectacular scenery on Vancouver Island with views of mountain peaks and the Johnstone Strait as they negotiate their way over the well-developed trail.”

On Saturday, June 21st, 2014, at 12:07:22, after 5 hours, 7 minutes, and 22 seconds…
What 6 kilometres of up up looks like.
Waiting for the up up rope.
Almost at the summit
Slog up, slide down on your bum.
3 hours and fourty-four minutes in, on the summit of Mt. Kusam, only 15 kilometres to go!
With just over 2 kilometres left, they threw in a ladder… a ladder.
The Smiths with their new friend, Chris, who by the way is in the Canadian Navy. Chris says that this race is harder than any of his military training.
The Smiths can now answer that question.
YES WE ARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Namaste, Mt. Kusam.
Shelley and John
That’s pretty cool! What a beautiful trail for a hike. And, John didn’t get hurt!

No. Although I went down a few times, John was good. However we are now walking around like we’re a hundred years old! YEOUCH!

Congratulations. This reminds me of the challenging hike in the Canadian Rockies, where a tea house lay at the summit of the mountain. We had to climb over ice-covered Glaciers, waterfalls and streams while heading up to then top. When we finally got there we were each given a tea shirt proving that we had reached the tea house on top of the mountain. What an accomplishment!

Man, I want to go back to BC. And to give that challenge a go. Well done to the both of you.
And in other news… (1) How much does a washer/dryer combo usually go for in BC. The figure I was quoted was SO much more than the equivalent in the UK. Though I do accept that everything is bigger in North America; and (2) Forgive the shameless plug, but the Kindle version of the book is now available!

Thanks Sean. You can go with John next year. Might be a slow after party though. Not a lot of drinking so nothing for the two of you to nick. As for your appliances – Sears ( They’re online) is a company that we are looking at for ours. We don’t do stainless steal as we prefer not to go back to work. Also, Home Depot has sales too. Not sure how posh your condo is, but get your manager to look at restores. That’s how we fitted out our rentals. Finally, so excited about your book. Will get John to try again. Yeah for you, writer. 🙂

Ha! Ha! It was supposed to be a run. Once we hit the summit, we started. Last year’s Tough Mudder had a small section like the ascent. Soooooo tough! Are you ready????

Pretty much. Warrior Dash had the same kind of hill to deal with at the start. Should be fun.
