While on the free Zion National Park Shuttle bus…

Shelley: Hi there.

Nice young man: Have you been enjoying your visit?

Shelley: We sure have.

Nice young man: Where’ve you been so far?

Shelley: Kolob Canyon,

the Riverside Walk,

the Emerald Pools, although, to be honest, I wasn’t all that impressed with the pools, but the views were stunning.

What about you?

Nice young man: I hiked Angel’s Landing this morning.

Shelley: Awesome. We’re heading there right now. Definitely looking forward to the challenge.

Nice young man: It’s not as intimidating as it looks. I reached the summit in one and a half hours but I am young and in really good hiking shape. Now don’t you worry,

(Honest to God, I solemnly swear, at that moment he mentally patted my hand)

you should be able to reach the top in, oh, about two and a half hours. This is your stop. Good luck.

Shelley: John! Did you hear what that youngster said to me? Seriously. What the F@#k??? Do I look like I have one foot in the grave? Do I? Do I? How dare he judge me by my hair colour. I knew I should never have bleached it. It makes me look like I’m a hundred years old. What a… a… a… pompous jerk. A young pompous jerk. Oh my God! I swear I should have told him what to do with his two and a half hours. I…I… John?

John: I heard. Ready?

Shelley: I was born ready.

John: Set?

Shelley: Set.

John: Go!

Shelley: Go!

Shelley and John: Go! Go! Goooooo!!!!!

  1. You should have told him what to do! Damn whippersnappers.

These photos are exquisite. Thanks for taking and sharing them.

The Tetons, Zion, Bryce, Moab, Painted Canyon… each borders on heaven. Enjoy the terrain!

  2. How dare that young man! Too bad you didn’t run into him right after so he would have to eat his words and see the pics so you could prove your in better shape than he! FYI, after we had to listen to the crazy lady’s hair story that day, you’d better have your hair bleached since that’s the mission that caused us to encounter her!

    • Right? I would have said, “Oh hi. We managed to finish it in 1:11 and then we ran down and up the edge of the Grand Canyon. (Last part may have been exaggerated!) I forgot about that lady. Why me???

  4. The image of the moon rising over Kolob Canyon is particularly stunning, but all of the ones in the post are fantastic.

And yay you (both) for your time up Angel’s Landing. Your photos of the hike are fun and joyful. (I hope the slightly condescending young man sees them!)

    • Thanks Cindi! Yeah, let’s hope he sees them and goes whoops!! He did tell me his time on the loop form the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Good thing we’re on the north or else we would have had to go go go again! 🙂

      • Absolutely bad ass t-shirts! Seriously, I showed the hub this post, since I had mostly just read them to him before (while giggling uncontrollably), and he said “damn they look fit!”. 😀

I think your photos are always awesome, but we can always learn more. Something for your next off season. Definitely one of the first things I am doing when we retire is a photo class. With a real camera, not a cell phone. Ha.

    • Thanks for dropping by. There were definitely families with kids in our campground, but none on our trail except for this young couple who carried their baby up on their back pack!! Shame that the little one will never remember! 🙂

  5. Great pictures and story. Kids! Don’t underestimate the grownups!! I had a similar situation happen on the last hike we took. The ranger told us it would take us about 2:45, took us less than half that time. My hair’s not blond so I just must look out of shape.

I loved Zion and Bryce. So beautiful out there. Thanks. 🙂

    • Damn right, kids these days. We think that some of these parks, like the Grand Canyon over estimate because people under estimate the effects of heat. Thanks for calling my hair blonde! Zion and Bryce are definitely up there on our favourites. Today, we check out Kanaib and surrounding areas.
