Nurse: What seems to be the problem?

Mom: Just before lunch my hands and face swelled up.

Nurse: Were you stung by anything?

Mom: No.

Nurse: Did you eat anything unusual?

Mom: No.

Shelley: My cooking.

Dad: (Puts on rubber gloves) The doctor is in. You know what to do John.

John: Oh Jesus!

Dad: What now, John?

Nurse: Do you have difficulty swallowing?

Mom: No.

Nurse: Anything else.

Mom: My hands are incredibly itchy.

Front of Clinic: Hello? Hello?

John: It’s OK. I’ve got this. Hi there. The nurse is busy. While you wait, I might as well get the process started. Did you bring your BC Health Card?

Nurse: Are you having difficulty breathing?

Mom: No, but the area under my tongue’s swollen.

Nurse: You took antihistamine 20 minutes ago, starting to feel better?

Dad: Valerie, I’ve sterilized my hands. Take off all of your clothes.

Mom: Actually a little.

Dad: Whew! I was a little worried that my $100 bucks wouldn’t cover this visit.

Nurse: Are you taking any prescribed medication?

Mom: Of course. At my age it could be down to hours.

John: Thank you. Please take a seat.

Mom: In fact, I said to Brad during my last appointment, (actually he doesn’t like me calling him Brad. He says I’m the patient and he’s the Doctor, so I need to call him Doctor Ferris) Anyway I said, “Brad, if my body fails, I want you to promise me that you’ll only give me three whacks of the paddle and one go at artificial insemination.”

Nurse: Artificial insemination? Are you sure that’s what you meant?

John: Now, where were we?

Mom: Yes. And then I added, “Brad, if you don’t bring me back to life I want my entire body donated to science. I’ve decided I don’t want to be chopped up into little pieces.” Then I gave him some of my homemade muffins.

Nurse: Don’t you mean resuscitation?

Mom: Ha! Ha! Ha! I guess I do.

Dad: Good thing because “the bull” isn’t ready.

    • Hey Ted. So sorry for the late late late reply. Took a few months off to recharge. I wanted to share that my eldest son, Matt, visited your Island in the summer. He met up with a fellow teacher from Kuwait. While there they visited another famous resident besides you, Paul Chadwick. Do you know him?

    • Thanks Jack. I sure hope it will be cozy as we’re adding an ethanol fireplace at the end of the room. As for gruelling winter storms… I’m kind of embarrassed to say the bottom of the Valley rarely gets snow.

Congratulations on your 55th! (My 57th is just around the corner, so I can consider you a youngster.)

Your living room looks open and welcoming! I love the colors you’ve chosen for your rooms.

And it’s good that your family hasn’t changed one bit. 🙂

    Is your Mom feeling better?

    • Hi there Shelley. John and I would love to be part of your series. Good thing I checked the comments as I was having a little time off, (well, more like an extended three month vacation) and decided that there must be more to life than renovations, like writing my blog. I look forward to hearing more from you.
